Hardware Schedule
Door Hardware Schedule for the 3 Acoustic Doors (D1, D3, D5)
Type C — Construction Guide · 3 doors · STC 45–50 · All seals acoustically critical [AC] · D2 deleted (Rev2) — Control uses external D5
Overview
This schedule defines the complete hardware specification for each of the three acoustic doors in the MediaVerse studio complex. All hardware selections are driven by STC requirements and operational needs. (D2 deleted Rev2 — the Control Room is now entered by its own external door, D5.)

D1 — Entry Door
Door D1 — STC 50
Exterior Entry Door
D1 is the primary entry from the building corridor into the studio complex. As an exterior-facing acoustic door, it requires additional weather protection beyond standard acoustic seals. [AC]
Specification
| Parameter | Value |
| STC rating | STC 50 |
| Leaf size | 90 × 220 cm |
| Frame | 16 ga steel, welded corners, grout-filled |
| Hinges | 4× heavy-duty ball-bearing (120 kg rated each) — NON-REMOVABLE-PIN security type (leaf opens OUT; knuckles on corridor side) |
| Perimeter seal | Magnetic strip + compression neoprene gasket [AC] |
| Threshold | Auto drop seal + weather strip gasket [AC] |
| Lock | Lever handle + mortise lock (keyed entry) |
| Closer | Concealed overhead, adjustable closing speed |
Additional Weather Protection
- Weather stripping: Continuous weather strip on all four edges (in addition to acoustic seals) [AC]
- Rain deflector: Aluminium drip bar at door head to prevent water ingress into seal channel
- Threshold gasket: Rubber threshold gasket below drop seal for secondary weather barrier
4 hinges required: D1 is the heaviest door in the complex and is the most frequently operated. Four hinges distribute the weight and reduce long-term hinge sag that would compromise seal contact.
Closer adjustment: Set closing speed to 3–5 seconds from 90° to latch. Faster closing can damage seals; slower closing leaves the door ajar during high-traffic periods. [HP]
D3 — VO Live Door
Door D3 — STC 45
Buffer Spine to VO Live Booth
D3 is the smallest door in the complex at 80 cm width. It connects the buffer spine to the VO Live booth B304. Swings north into the VO booth. This door has the tightest seal requirements in the complex because VO Live targets NC-12. [AC]
Specification
| Parameter | Value |
| STC rating | STC 45 |
| Leaf size | 80 × 220 cm |
| Frame | 18 ga steel, welded corners, grout-filled |
| Hinges | 3× heavy-duty ball-bearing (100 kg rated each) |
| Perimeter seal | Neoprene compression gasket (D-profile, continuous) [AC] |
| Threshold | Auto drop seal [AC] |
| Lock | Lever handle + passage set (no key) |
| Closer | Surface mounted, adjustable |
NC-12 Seal Requirements
- Zero tolerance on gaps: VO Live targets NC-12, which means ANY seal gap is audible in recordings [AC]
- Drop seal verification: Must contact threshold across full 80 cm width with zero daylight [HP]
- Compression gasket: Verify positive compression on head and both jambs with feeler gauge (no 0.5 mm gap acceptable) [HP]
Do NOT: Accept D3 installation if ANY gap is detectable around the perimeter. NC-12 is the most demanding noise criterion in the complex — a 1 mm seal gap raises the noise floor above the target. [AC]
D5 — Control Room External Door
Door D5 — STC 50
Control Room External Entry
D5 is a new dedicated external entry into the Control Room B311, set in the south wall. As an exterior-facing acoustic door it opens outward and requires additional weather protection beyond the standard acoustic seals. [AC]
Specification
| Parameter | Value |
| STC rating | STC 50 |
| Leaf size | 90 × 220 cm |
| Frame | 16 ga steel, welded corners, grout-filled |
| Hinges | 4× heavy-duty ball-bearing (120 kg rated each) — NON-REMOVABLE-PIN security type (leaf opens OUT; knuckles on corridor side) |
| Perimeter seal | Magnetic strip + compression neoprene gasket [AC] |
| Threshold | Auto drop seal + weather strip gasket [AC] |
| Lock | Lever handle + mortise lock (keyed entry) |
| Closer | Concealed overhead, adjustable |
Additional Weather Protection
- Weather stripping: Continuous weather strip on all four edges (in addition to acoustic seals) [AC]
- Rain deflector: Aluminium drip bar at door head to prevent water ingress into the seal channel
- Outward swing: D5 opens outward (south) — confirm clear external landing and that the swing does not obstruct any adjacent egress path
4 hinges required: As an exterior STC 50 door, D5 carries a heavy leaf. Four hinges distribute the weight and reduce long-term hinge sag that would compromise seal contact. [AC]
Closer adjustment: Set closing speed to 3–5 seconds from 90° to latch. Faster closing can damage seals; slower closing leaves the door ajar. [HP]
Maintenance Schedule
Ongoing
Preventive Maintenance for All Acoustic Doors
| Frequency | Task | Acceptance Criteria |
| Annual |
Inspect all seals for compression set, cracking, or gaps |
No light visible around any edge when door is closed. Replace seals if light is visible. [HP] |
| Annual |
Verify drop seal contact with threshold |
Full-width contact with threshold plate. Adjust mechanism if gap exists. [HP] |
| Bi-annual |
Lubricate hinges; check closer speed |
Closer speed: 3–5 seconds from 90° to latch. No hinge binding or squeaking. |
| As needed |
Check magnetic seal pull force (D1 and D5 only) |
Minimum pull force: >2 kg/m of seal length. [AC] |
Warning: Propping acoustic doors open during recording sessions destroys all isolation. The STC rating of any door drops to effectively STC 0 when held open. Use any magnetic hold-open devices only during non-recording periods. [AC]
Seal replacement schedule: Neoprene compression gaskets should be replaced every 3–5 years, or immediately if annual inspection reveals compression set or visible gaps. Magnetic seal strips have a longer service life (7–10 years) but should be checked for demagnetization.
