What you need
170mm steel studs · W-07C
Qty: 1 lot
Frame the partition
2Mineral wool 70mm · W-05
Qty: 110 m²
Fill the stud cavity
3Gypsum 12.5mm · W-07
Qty: 138 m²
2 layers each face
4Green Glue compound (5-gal) + sealant tubes · W-02 / W-03
Qty: 5 / 60
~2 tubes per sheet, BETWEEN the two boards
Build sequence
1 Frame + insulate
Erect the 70mm steel studs and friction-fit 70mm wool in the cavity.
2 Face A — first board
Screw the first 12.5mm gypsum to the studs on face A.
3 Face A — Green Glue + second board
Spread Green Glue (~2 tubes/sheet) on the second board's face — NOT on the studs/edges — and screw it on so it shears between the two boards.
4 Face B — first board
Repeat on face B: first 12.5mm gypsum to the studs.
5 Face B — Green Glue + second board
Green Glue + second board on face B. (W7: Green Glue on the studio side only.) Seal all perimeters with acoustic sealant.
Golden rule: Green Glue is constrained-layer damping — it only works BETWEEN two boards. Never put it on the studs or within ~12mm of board edges.
