Build sequence
1 Prep & isolate the slab
Clean and level the structural slab. Lay Sylomer SR28 25mm (mats/strips) per the Sylomer layout. The isolation layer must NOT touch the walls — the floated deck is fully decoupled.
2 First plywood layer
Lay 18mm T&G plywood over the Sylomer. Leave a continuous 25mm gap to every wall face. Do not screw through to the slab or walls.
3 Second plywood layer
Add the second 18mm T&G plywood layer with joints staggered vs layer 1. Glue + screw it to layer 1 ONLY (never to slab or walls) so the two plies act as one mass.
4 Seal the perimeter gap
Fit 25mm closed-cell backer rod into the perimeter gap and cap with Tremco acoustic sealant. The gap stays continuous and is NEVER bridged by screed, skirting, conduit, or door thresholds.
5 Lay the finished floor
Lay the finished floor on the floated deck: acoustic vinyl (VO Live, Video Studio) or carpet tile (Control, Editing). Skirting fixes to the floated floor only — never to the wall face.
Golden rule: the floated deck touches the structure ONLY through the Sylomer. Any rigid bridge (a screw to the slab, screed in the gap, skirting on the wall, a hard threshold) short-circuits the isolation. Keep the 25mm perimeter gap continuous on all sides.
